What’s your favorite type of dance?
I would have to say classical ballet is my favorite because it allows you to tell a story through your dancing. I have always loved the artistic side of ballet. However, I also really love dancing contemporary styles because the movements are so intense and they allow the body to move in ways one may never of thought possible.
There’s always the debate: are dancers athletes? To us, it’s clear. YES! But can you tell someone that doesn’t know a lot about ballet, the types of strengths and skills that make this art as hard as any sport?
Dancers are like athletes because we train our bodies in specific ways that are just as physical. We have to be able to keep our stamina throughout a performance just like athletes would through a game. Besides stretching our legs over our heads and leaping higher than basketball players can, we have to maintain the art and still tell a story through each movement!
What is your favorite dance move?
My favorite dance move is a “grand jete” or a “saut de chat.” This is a jump where you split your legs in mid air. It feels like you are flying... so thrilling!
What’s your favorite song to dance to?
That’s a hard one because I love all types of music and it also depends on my mood. Current music that really moves me is “Secrets” by One Republic and “You Found Me” by The Fray. If I’m in a more classical mood then I’d choose “Fly” by Ludovico Einaudi.
What is your favorite post dance workout snack?
After dance class I would definitely head for a frozen yogurt, but after working out at the gym I would probably choose something with chicken, my favorite!
