Exclusive Q&A with Bunheads' Bailey Buntain

The world premiere of Bunheads is less than a week away, guys! Did you know all of our fabulous “bunheads” are actually amazing trained dancers in real life too? Check out this interview with Bailey Buntain, who plays Ginny.

At what age did you start dancing?
I started dancing as a toddler but really started to take training seriously around age seven. My core training is in jazz, tap, and ballet, but I have experience in various styles, from ballroom to baton.

What’s your favorite type of dance?
I love them all! My favorite tends to change with my mood. The beauty and grace of dancing ballet is a one-of-a-kind feeling, but I also have so much fun doing theatre rep. And I love tap.

What’s your favorite dance move?
I have always loved turns. I have good balance (maybe it is because I’m short and my axis is closer to the ground ) so turning comes easier to me. Pirouettes, Fouettes, chaines, piques.... I like to spin!

There's always the debate: are dancers athletes? To us, it's clear. YES! But can you tell someone that doesn't know a lot about ballet, the types of strengths and skills that make this art as hard as any sport?
As a dancer your body is your tool and your instrument. Just like sports. You have to have flexibility, agility, balance, rhythm, creativity, and strength. When you are a dancer you also have to know your body in a completely different way. You have to be able to listen to it, teach it, and take care of it.
