Fan Q&A with Jeanine Mason

Miss the live chat with Bunheads' newcomer Jeanine Mason? No worries! We've compiled the incredible Q&A here for you. What does she think of Cozette? Who was she a major fan of before getting a role on Bunheads? Jeanine answers those and more, so keep reading! (And if you missed her first dance on the show, be sure to check it out here. It’s amazing!)

QUESTION: Did you know Sutton Foster prior to Bunheads? I was a big fan of hers on Broadway. Will we get to see any scenes between Michelle and your character?

JEANINE: I am a HUGE Sutton Foster fan. To this day when I get to set, I see her and have an exploding fan girl moment. She is such a real and kind person that immediately, I am reminded that this is just Sutton. There will definitely be scenes between Sutton and Cozette. She's been a really cool person to work with on set, and she was actually a fan of So You Think You Can Dance. At a table read she said, "I love you!" And I thought, "No way!"

QUESTION: So excited to see these episodes! You've been my biggest inspiration ever since you won SYTYCD, and Bunheads is one of my favorite shows! How awesome is it to have a part on a show, especially one you get to regularly dance in? Is acting something you've always wanted to do?

JEANINE: Yes, acting was my first passion. Dance evolved as a hobby and as a complement to the fact that I wanted to act on Broadway. But I fell in love with movement and decided it was something that I was going to pursue simultaneously. Being able to have this role and opportunity on Bunheads, it was a dream come true. So when I got the audition, I just knew I had to get this job. I'm such a fan, and I'm glad that all of you guys are, too!

QUESTION: I'm so excited to see you dance on Bunheads. I saw a sneak peek of your dance and it's so amazing. Do you get to dance a lot on the show? I hope so! Also, was it different for you to dance for a scripted show vs. on SYTYCD?

JEANINE: I definitely will be dancing more this season. The cool thing is that we have a broader range of styles than I anticipated. We're working on an episode a little later in the season with a hip-hop feel to it.

It's a new kind of challenge because we're not shooting live. There are more takes. When it's not scripted, you have to hit it live or you get eliminated. On Bunheads, I get to think more about her sentiment and message.

QUESTION: Do you still keep in touch with Jakob from SYTYCD?

JEANINE: Yes! He's one of my best friends. I actually have his Christmas card up on my fridge right now!

QUESTION: I just read that today is your birthday! Is that true? If so, what are you doing to celebrate? And Happy Birthday!

JEANINE: Thank you! It is my birthday. I am kind of overwhelmed because my debut on Bunheads is today. I am getting together with friends this weekend though and having a camp-themed birthday party!
