Fan Q&A with Jeanine Mason

QUESTION: I watched a clip of you on Bunheads and your character apparently speaks a lot of different languages. Do you? If not, have you had to learn different languages for the show?

JEANINE: I am bilingual. I speak Spanish. Cozette speaks French, and I definitely do not speak French although I do love languages. I had to work with a language coach for a week to portray this lady, who is very good at speaking all these different languages!

QUESTION: Is it true you are a fan of Amy Sherman-Palladino? Were you nervous auditioning for the role if you were a fan first? And does your character talk as fast as the other Paradise residents? Can't wait to see your debut!!!!

JEANINE: Yes, absolutely nervous! With every audition, it's like that. The potential of how fun this job could be--but also working with her--I really just feel and think she will always be remembered as one of the most influential women in Hollywood. So sitting at that first table read with her is a moment I will always treasure. Actually, Cozette and her brother are the only two characters who don't speak as quickly as the rest. It's a point of putting them in their own world of being calm, cool and collected. But there might be a moment or two where we're on the Palladino bandwagon!

QUESTION: Were you a fan of Bunheads before you joined the cast? What's been your favorite Bunheads moment?

JEANINE: I'm a huge fan of Bunheads. I've always been a fan of Amy, and anything she would do, I would probably tune in. I love that Istanbul (Not Constantinople) dance Sasha did. I loved the look of it and the choreography. It was so cool to see a dance done that well on a TV show.

QUESTION: Jeanine, are you similar in real life to your character of Cozette in any way? Or are you completely different personalities?

JEANINE: As an actor, I try to find that bit of her that is true to me and really amp that up just so that I have an honest connection with her. I relate to her passion (even though she's passionate about A LOT more things than me!). She's very good at a lot of things and is adamant about practice and honing her instrument. She takes her ballet very seriously. She's also a free spirit. She's very loving and cheery, kind of in her own world. Those are things I love about her the most. I aspire to be just this ball of positivity, which she totally is.

QUESTION: Is Cozette going to get along with Sasha and the rest of group?

JEANINE: Cozette is on good terms with everyone. It's a question of whether they are intimidated by her. It's not so much Sasha that she needs to worry about. But Ginny...

QUESTION: How old were you when you first started dancing?

JEANINE: I was three years old. I was pretty young! And I started with just ballet and little by little added different styles.
