Fan Q&A with Alexandra Chando

QUESTION: Why is Sutton so mean to Laurel?

ALEXANDRA: I think it's just because she is in her own world and is a selfish person. Older sisters, I feel, tend to have an attitude toward younger sisters anyway. But with Sutton, she's like a whole other beast.

QUESTION: Did your high school experience have as much drama as Sutton and Emma’s?

ALEXANDRA: No. We didn't really have mean girls at my high school. I was also heavily into theatre so that was a different type of experience for me.

QUESTION: Do you play tennis or run in real life?

ALEXANDRA: No, I do not. I definitely don't run, and I have had a lot of running scenes, especially this season. But I do take tennis lessons and occasionally practice. But I'm fairly athletic, so it wasn't too tough to at least make myself look like a tennis player.

QUESTION: Do you think Emma and Sutton have a different sense of style? And does that difference help you get into each character?

ALEXANDRA: Their senses of style were more different in the first season. I think now that Emma has more taken on Sutton's life, their style is more similar. However, this season, we changed up Sutton's style a little bit. It's slightly different than the "normal" Sutton wardrobe.

QUESTION: I know you are and have done a web series, how is the process and your preparation different for filming a web series and television?

ALEXANDRA: Well, a web series is different because the episodes are only about six minutes. So you film ten episodes in twenty days. It's a lot quicker. For me personally, the workload was easier since I was only playing one role!

QUESTION: Do you have any advice for any young aspiring actresses?

ALEXANDRA: Persistence is key. You have to stick with it and hone your craft in every way possible!

QUESTION: When did you first know that you wanted to be an actor and how did you start?

ALEXANDRA: My mom took me to a production of Annie when I was very young, maybe 6 or 7. After seeing that, I knew right away. And then I started professionally when I was in high school.
