So the other day, I was coaching my new-girl pet project, Hester, into becoming a more suitable human—just being my usual society-improving self.
“Tell me again, Hester, is biting people socially acceptable or not?” Hester shook her head “no,” so I gave her a walnut cookie…she’s really into walnuts. I do have to admit, she’s made a lot of progress. She responds to questions now, and her skin has even gotten to be a few shades darker than translucent. When we arrived at my locker, I opened it, and there it was. A note was sitting there with a single word on it: Lennox.
“Ow ow! Did Aidan leave you a little love note?” Hester asked. She still doesn’t know about my torrid triangle of love.
“Lesson #46, Hester: Mind your own business.” So what if my heart has been won by two boys simultaneously? People don’t understand how hard it is. I mean, there’s a lot of scheduling to keep up with, and it ends up being A LOT of work. Unable to take the suspense, I flung the folded paper open, and it read: “Meet me at La Luna’s at 7:00 for a romantic dinner for two. (Me and you.)” Following a moment of feeling a little insulted that he thought I was so dumb that I couldn’t figure out what “for two” meant, I realized I had no idea who “he” was. Was the note left by Haskell or Aidan? Due to all dudes having the same scribbley handwriting, I seriously couldn’t tell. “Hester!” I shouted. “I need you to do me a favor.”
