Minutes later, I had Hester creeping toward Aidan at his locker while I crouched behind a nearby trash can. Unaware that Hester was standing there, Aidan shut his locker and jumped, dropping one of his books.
“You scared me!” Aidan shouted.
“Hi, you’re that boy Lennox gets all mushy with, right?” Hester asked.
Aidan looked at her kind of bewildered. “Could you maybe not be so quiet when you approach people? And yes, I’m her boyfriend. Who are you?”
“I’m Hester, Lennox’s friend.” Ugh…I told her not to tell people we were friends until her transformation was complete! “What are you doing tonight, Aidan?” Hester asked.
“Um…nothing. Just studying for my bio quiz. What about you?” Aidan responded. Yes! He’s busy tonight, which means it was Haskell who left the note!
“What are you doing behind the trash can?” Someone asked from behind me—Haskell!
“Don’t sneak up on me like that! I could have maced you!” I yelled, turning around.
“That wouldn’t have been so great for our big date tonight,” Haskell said. “See you at seven?” I nodded with a smile then punched his arm for his sneak attack.
