Ashley's officially doing it with Toby. Her dad knows about it and everything. But it's different than when Amy first had sex. For starters, they are being safe – Ash is on the pill and they're also using condoms – and like she said to her father when he figured it out, "No one's pregnant here." Ashley also knew Toby really well before they started doing it – they drove cross country together and spent a lot of time getting to know each other. She's also older and more mature than Amy was her first time. Remember, Amy was just starting her freshman year when she got pregnant.
Ashley has also had the opportunity to learn from her older sister's mistakes. For example, she knows she doesn't want to get pregnant so she's serious about protection. She also knows how having a baby before you're ready can be a real downer when it comes to living a fun and free teenage life. She's seen Amy struggle with friends, school, money, work, romance, and her parents. That doesn't mean that getting through your teen years without a pregnancy means you won't have issues with your parents or with money or with social drama – but having a child while you try to go through all the ups and downs of being a teenager makes it all a lot more difficult. And seriously, isn't it hard enough already?
What do you think will happen when Ann finds out Ashley is having sex? How do you think Amy will react? If you found out your little sister was getting super-serious with her boyfriend, what would you say? Tell us in the comments! And for more to talk about this from this episode – like how marriage would change Ricky and Amy's relationship and the continuing saga of Dylan being a bad influence on Ben –
